Description

"This intense, almost purple-colored Pinotage also displays lovely fruity notes of blackberries and spicy-floral notes (cloves, violets), setting it apart from South African examples, which are often characterized by a certain banana-like aroma. On the palate, this complex Valais specialty is medium-bodied, dense, with fine tannins, ripe acidity, and very good length. Given the young vines, the Pinotage is likely to have a moderate aging potential of at least seven or eight years."

- Peter Keller, Certified Wine Specialist

"We planted the first Pinotage vines in Valais in 2012. This wine is the first Swiss organic wine made from this grape variety, which originated in South Africa. It is fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts in open wooden vats and then ages in our cellar to become a unique wine.
On the nose, it’s classic Pinotage, with hints of smoke and black elderberry—those characteristic spicy-fruity aromas. There are also notes of cloves, cranberries, and cherry. Juicy on the palate, with rounded tannins. It features ripe fruit, with only a hint of spice, but all the more cassis and blackberry. In terms of body and style, the wine fits seamlessly alongside Cornalin and Humagne Rouge—Welcome to Valais, dear Pinotage.”
