The title “Swiss Winery of the Year 2022” goes to Cave du Rhodan – Mounir Weine in Salgesch.

The Swiss wine industry gathered on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Kursaal in Bern to celebrate the gala evening of the
16th Grand Prix du Vin Suisse in style. This year, 80 wineries were in the running to win one of the
39 trophies at the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse and one of the five special prizes. The title of Swiss
Winery of the Year goes to Cave du Rhodan – Mounir Weine in Salgesch for the first time.

The tasting for the 16th edition
of the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse, organized jointly by the VINEA association and the wine magazine VINUM, took place in Sierre from July 25 to 29. Over the course of these five days, no fewer than 132 judges and experts from across the country blind-tasted and
evaluated the 2,325 wines submitted to the
competition. No fewer than 300 gold medals (89 out of 100 points or higher) and
418 silver medals were awarded.

, which took place at the Kursaal in Bern. After the Cave du Rhodan - Mounir wines from Salgesch had claimed the top spot on the winners’ podium in the “Other Single-Varietal Red Wines” category with their 2021 Syrah “
,” the winery
also secured the coveted title of “Swiss Winery of the Year”! The winery, now in its third generation under the leadership of the Mounir family
, also won the Prix Vinissimo “Coup de Coeur Red.”

Winners from all over Switzerland on the podium
Back in late August, the six best wines from all 13 competition categories—selected as nominees—were blind-tasted once again by a
ten-member international jury of experts, which determined the final ranking of the top three
wines in each individual category. The panel of experts was impressed by the exceptional
quality and diversity of the 80 wines. With 14 podium finishes each for the canton of Vaud and 13 for the canton of Valais
, Switzerland’s two largest wine-growing regions dominated this year’s competition.
Both wine-growing regions each claimed five first-place finishes: Valais in the categories “Other Single-Varietal
White Wines,” “White Blends,” “Gamay,” “Other Single-Varietal Red Wines,” and in the “
” category “Sparkling Wines”. The wines from Vaud took first place in the categories “Chasselas,” “Rosé Wines and
Blanc de Noirs,” “Red Blends,” “Gamaret, Garanoir, or Mara,” and finally in the “Sweet Wines” category.
First place in the “Riesling-Sylvaner / Müller-Thurgau” category went to the Graubünden region. Ticino, the
iconic home of the “Merlot” grape variety, took first place in this category, and the canton of Zurich claimed
first place in the “Pinot Noir” category.

The Germanier - Cave du Tunnel winery in Conthey claimed first place for the fourth consecutive year in the
“Sparkling Wine” category with its vintage Brut Blanc de Blanc, Jacques Germanier Réserve 2016.
